Dr. Carlo completed his undergraduate education with MB, ChB at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. Following this, he obtained a Diploma in Anaesthesiology from the South African College of Anaesthetists.
Dr. Carlo spent a number of years working in Accident and Emergency Medicine in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He qualified as Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in South Africa and is also designated as AME for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia.
Dr. Carlo completed a postgraduate honours degree in Aerospace Medicine with distinction from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s degree in Aviation Medicine with distinction from the University of Otago in New Zealand.
He moved to the UAE in 2010 where he worked as critical care air ambulance flight physician based in Dubai for two years prior to joining Etihad Airways.
Dr. Carlo speaks Afrikaans and English.
